Look within. Within is the fountain of good, and it will ever bubble up, if thou wilt ever dig.
~Marcus Aurelius Antoninus, Meditations, Book VII, circa 161-180
Bubble up your goodness for your better life!
The Philosophy for LYF begins with three truths: your life will end, your life matters, and your life can be better. These three truths are motivations for you to start living your life better, to live your life to make a positive difference, and to take control of your life and make it better. Now is the time.
But you may be among those who have difficulty accepting these truths. And your reason: you feel you do not have goodness within you.
Others have told you so. That you were a failure. That your life was worthless. That you are an evil person. That everything you do is wrong.
Or you have told yourself that you've never made a difference. That the world would be better without you. That everything you say or do has no value, is not helpful, or is even harmful, whether to yourself or others.
These thoughts have penetrated you to your core. You have convinced yourself they are true.
But they are not true. You control the most critical and valuable aspects of your life: your values, your thoughts, and your actions. It all starts with your goodness. When you make goodness your core value, when your align your thoughts and actions with goodness, when you make goodness the focus of how you live your life, you can elevate your life to a higher level. Where your life positively matters. Where your life is positively better.
But do you have goodness within you?
Of course you do! You––and only you––are in control of your own goodness. You just need to reach deep within yourself to bring it out into the open.
As Marcus Aurelius wrote almost two thousand years ago, look within you. Within you is the fountain of goodness. Goodness will come to the surface, and it will bubble up in your thoughts and your actions. If you don't feel it, dig deeper within yourself and it shall spring upward.
Dig deeper. And go forth evermore with goodness. And with your better life.
