Path Week 4: Give true worth

posted in: Philosophy 0

Week 4 focuses on LRN LAF LUV LIV toward others.

The Philosophy for LYF provides a path to your better life.  The path is broken into steps.  Each step you take is an incremental improvement of where you were before. And each step you take builds off the previous steps to reinforce what you have changed.

A week is suggested for each step—long enough for you to meet the objective of each step, but short enough to keep you moving forward and gaining experience in each key concept.

This post provides more detail and a template for Week 4.  If you have not started on the path to your better life, click here to start at Week 0.

Week 4

Give true worth

Focus on LRN LAF LUV LIV toward others. Actions from these deeds of goodness are about empowering, uplifting, nurturing, and inspiring the goodness in others.

Week 4 turns the focus to giving true worth.  Instead of focusing goodness inward as in Week 3, the focus of your goodness for this week is outward toward others.  You give true worth when you empower, uplift, nurture, and inspire the goodness in others through your own goodness.

Keenly observe opportunities and go out of your way to make sure you teach something you know well to enrich and empower those around you.  Spread good nature to others, whether through a smile, a thank you, and kind words.  Make a conscious effort to provide support to others, whether simple acts of kindness or something much more involved.  And lead by example through goodness, quality, and extra effort to inspire others to do a little better or a little more.

Even though the focus of this week is on others, this does not mean to forego growing true wealth and increasing your own goodness.  And you will have many opportunities to grow true wealth, because giving true worth to others often does goodness to yourself.

Step 1.  Before the end of each day, write down a brief summary of how you gave true worth to others.  What did you do through your goodness to empower others (LRN), uplift others (LAF), nurture (care for and support) others (LUV), and inspire others (LIV)?  Use the Week 4 template, one for each day. Just like Week 2 and Week 3, you may want to keep a notebook handy throughout the day and jot your actions down soon after they occur so you will not forget.  Carrying a notebook with you also helps keep the objective of Week 4 always in your mind.  Do not let a day go by; at a minimum, write them down at the end of the day.

The template also gives you time for reflection.  Were there some thoughts you had or actions you did toward others that were not done in goodness and made you a less worthy person?  If you did not do much goodness toward others today, what were the reasons?  Were there opportunities to do goodness toward others, and in reflection, you missed those opportunities?  How can you do LRN LAF LUV and LIV toward others better tomorrow?

Step 2.  And the end of the week, review your notes.  Were you consistent in giving true worth throughout the week?  Did you give true worth with each of the four deeds of goodness?  If you destroyed some true worth, did you learn how to prevent it in the future?
